Spotlight on Kiwi jewellery designer Kat Gee

by adminPosted on July 15, 2018January 11, 2021

Kiwi jewellery designer, entrepreneur and mother, Kat Gee, made her mark in the jewellery industry with her frst brand, Kagi, which specializes in elegant, versatile and stunning designs.

Founded in 2006, the Kagi brand has now grown and is sold across Australasia and features frequently in top women’s fashion magazines.
The company is proudly based in New Zealand and creates versatile and elegant designer jewellery that women across the world love. Every season, Kagi travels the world to find the finest gems and pearls to use in their designs.

In an exciting new collection, Kat has created a signature range of limited edition pieces for Kagi that combines gold, rose gold or silver, a base metal and steel with semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski crystals and pearls to create jewellery that is collectable, stackable and utterly wearable.

Jewellery has always been Kat’s first love and passion. From designing and selling jewellery in the playground at age 7 to then starting her first jewellery company at just 24, a career in jewellery seemed inevitable. Kat first showed her jewellery at New Zealand Fashion Week 2007 to rave reviews and was quick to sell out of the first collections. The business has grown organically since then and Kat is now mum to 2 gorgeous young children and lives by the beach in Christchurch.

Citing her grandma’s style and savvy approach to accessorising as her single greatest inspiration, Kat’s designs are both timeless and contemporary and designed for the modern women. Kat’s simple uncluttered style and precision craftsmanship is evident in all of her limited-edition designs.

Growing up in Christchurch, New Zealand Kat recalls weekend visits to Birdling’s Flat beach with her Grandparents to hunt for precious gems and pebbles along the water’s edge. Now Kat travels the world to source the stunning gemstones and pearls to include in her designs and works with a highly talented team of jewellers to handcraft her concepts in reality.

She recalls the story of the pearl necklace that her Grandma hid in her undergarments when in a Japanese concentration camp WWII – this necklace is still in Kat’s family today. To Kat and her passionate Kat Gee team, jewellery represents much more than just metals and gems.

Kat hopes you find as much enjoyment from her designs as she has in creating them for you.
